I Am The Lore
The expression “History is written by the victors”, doesn’t actually hold up to much scrutiny. Even if it did, I claim no victories. And I also claim no history. I stand by my unreliable narrator tag. I do look some things up after writing about them, but it depends on my mood and whether factuality bothers me or not. (Mostly I aim at the broad shape of a thing, not a forensic sketch where every detail is rendered precisely)
I suppose what I’m clarifying here is that what I’m writing is a literary truth, rather than a literal truth. Not that it matters – I am not writing about events of any importance. You could call this the diary of a nobody, but that title’s already taken.
If you read something and think, it didn’t happen that way, then you are probably correct. But maybe it read better the way I chose to tell it. Who can say. There’s a column in The Guardian (there was such a column when I last read that paper about 20 years ago!) called Corrections and Clarifications. Sadly this blog doesn’t have that.
I’m afraid to say, out here I am the lore.
Meanwhile after a month of these writings, the daily posting schedule is about to change. Not every event fits neatly into a 1-2,000 word piece. Splitting stuff into parts may be suitable for some stories, but mostly it’s not. So longer pieces at a less regular frequency may be the way of things in the future. Or normal length pieces but not every day.
Who knows?
Stay tuned.
